  1. ******************  THE PEGASUS DISC README FILE  *******************

  3. WARNING!! Please read this before proceeding. You will need the
  4. following information to properly install the programs.
  5.  
  6. The Pegasus Disc Internet Tools Kit:
  7.  
  8. 1. This installer runs four vendor-provided installers.
  9.    If any of the vendor-provided installers ask you to restart 
  10.    your computer - DON'T!!!
  11.  
  12. 2. Save your work and close all applications BEFORE you begin the
  13.    installation procedure.
  14.  
  15. 3. Follow the prompts on the screen and make note of the following:
  16.  
  17.     * DO NOT change any of the drive letters or pathname defaults.
  18.       Changes may prevent the software from functioning properly.
  19.  
  20.     * When asked to 'view README file' or 'view a sample', answer
  21.       'No' or uncheck those boxes. You will be able to view them 
  22.       after the install is complete.
  23.  
  24.     * Decline any option to restart your computer.  You will be
  25.       instructed to restart your computer at the end of the 
  26.       installation process.
  27.  
  28. 4. The typical installation will automatically install the following
  29.    programs:
  30.  
  31.     * Netscape Communicator 4.5.
  32.     * Macromedia Shockwave 8.0 Player.
  33.     * Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0.
  34.     * Apple QuickTime Player 4.0.
  35.  
  36. 5. For custom installation (select "custom" in Setup Type dialog box),
  37.    you will see a list of available programs. Click in the box to
  38.    remove the check mark next to any program you do NOT want to install.
  39.  
  40.     IMPORTANT!! Netscape Communicator MUST be installed 
  41.     FIRST to ensure that the other programs will work properly.
  42.  
  43. 6. After clicking the "Next" button, the installer will begin. If you
  44.    choose typical installation, the programs will be installed in the
  45.    following order:
  46.  
  47.     * Netscape Communicator 4.5.
  48.     * Macromedia Shockwave 8.0 Player.
  49.     * Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0.
  50.     * Apple QuickTime Player 4.0.
  51.  
  52. 7. Installation of each program will be automatically triggered. 
  53.  
  54.     Remember:
  55.       - Answer YES to the license agreements for each program.
  56.       - Uncheck any options to view README files or samples.
  57.       - Select "Do NOT restart my computer at this time"
  58.  
  59. 8. When installation of all programs is complete, you will see 
  60.    The following message:
  61.  
  62.       "The Pegasus Disc Setup has finished installing all 
  63.       software on your computer.  It is now safe to restart your 
  64.       computer."
  65.  
  66.    At this point, select the option "Restart my computer at this 
  67.    time." If you do NOT select this option, you will have to 
  68.    manually restart your computer before the installation will be 
  69.    complete.

  71. 9. Troubleshooting for common problems and questions:

  74.            *** Macintosh / PC / Windows Problems ***
  75.

  77.    Q: When I put the CD into my computer, nothing happens, what
  78.       am I supposed to do?
  79.  
  80.    A: Auto-run for CD's is not enabled on your computer.  Double
  81.       click My Computer, then double click The Pegasus Disc icon.

  84.    Q: After I complete UCF-Setup, the window tells me to double click on
  85.       Dial-Up Networking, but it's not there.
  86.   
  87.    A: Dial-Up Networking needs to be installed on your computer.
  88.       Click on Start, Settings, then Control Panel.  Open
  89.       "Add/Remove Programs".  Click on the "Windows Setup" tab.
  90.       In the list of items double click on Communications.  Check
  91.       "Dial-Up Networking".  Click "OK".  At this point Windows
  92.       will attempt to install Dial-Up Networking.  You may need
  93.       your Windows CD at this point.  After it is finished,
  94.       close all windows and try UCF-Setup again.

  97.    Q: I need to dial a special number to get to an outside line.
  98.       How do I tell my computer/modem to dial an outside line to
  99.       connect to the internet?
  100.  
  101.    A: After you run the UCF-Setup program, do the following:
  102.       Open My Computer, then open Dial-Up Networking.  Right
  103.       click on the UCF connection icon, then select properties.
  104.       You will see a line that contains the phone number for
  105.       the pegasus terminal server.  Add the appropriate dialing
  106.       prefix before the number then press OK.

  109.    Q: I have Windows NT 4.0.  Is there help available to set
  110.       up my internet connection to UCF?
  111.  
  112.    A: There is no program that will automatically install the
  113.       connection for you, but there is a help section on
  114.       the CD-ROM on how to manually set up the connection.
  115.       Open up an internet browser then select open location
  116.       from the File menu.
  117.       Enter x:\tutorials\lol\internet\remote\remote04.html
  118.       (where x:\ is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).

  121.    Q: The CD wants me to install Netscape and I already
  122.       have it.  Am I going to lose my bookmarks and settings?
  123.  
  124.    A: No, Netscape is smart enough to look for older versions
  125.       and transfer all of your bookmarks and internet settings so you
  126.       might use them in the newer version.

  129.    Q: When I try to install QuickTime my computer tells me that
  130.       there is not enough space on my temp drive.
  131.  
  132.    A: Open up Windows Explorer and find the C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
  133.       folder and delete all files in that folder.  Run the
  134.       installation program again.

  137.    Q: When I try to install Shockwave, I get an error "The DLL
  138.       urlmon.dll could not be found in the path specified."
  139.  
  140.    A: This sometimes happens with Windows NT 4.0.  You can
  141.       safely ignore the error, everything will still work.

  144.    Q: When I try to launch the self test or another quiz, I get the 
  145.       message that I need to update my Director plug-in.
  146.  
  147.    A: Launch CD-ROM, select the "install" button, and follow instructions
  148.       (you may wish to refer to the Walk Me Through It Guide).
